On April 1st, we completed the 2nd day of our Community Donation Drive at our downtown office.

Food from Eastern Market Partnership was organized into care packages along with donated essentials like toilet paper, diapers, wipes, toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, and more, from our generous supporters. Hundreds of care packages were delivered to seniors, youth, and our Head Start families at their homes.

We want to thank everyone who donated as well as employees who volunteered to come in and wear protective equipment to make sure everyone stayed safe and donations were handled with the most consideration.

One of the recipients of our donated care packages was Ms. Mariane Smith.

On the second day of our Community Donation Drive, we received a message on Facebook from Mariane saying she was alone and needed help. After talking on the phone and getting her address, we delivered a care package to her apartment with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some donated essentials from our Community Donation Drive the same day. In her own words,

“Some people just don’t have nobody. I had no idea who to call. And I just said, I’m gonna reach out to these people and I thank you so much. A beautiful blessing… It helped me tremendously. I really was so surprised… The Matrix Center is a blessing, truly a blessing to the community.”

We have been serving communities in Detroit for over a hundred years and serve people of all ages, from birth to senior age. If you would like to support us during this critical time, please visit https://matrixhumanservices.org/give-to-matrix/ to make a donation.
