EVERY PENNY COUNTS
At Matrix Human Services, an average of 90 cents from every dollar donated goes directly toward program funding. This means 90% of every investment directly impacts the local community. With programs operating at more than 35 locations across the city of Detroit, Matrix Human Services serves more than 20,000 individuals and families yearly.
During this unprecedented time of Covid-19, our staff is working remotely and for everyone’s convenience – we asking all checks to be mailed to our safe and secure lockbox. Using this method will ensure your donation is received and deposited in a timely manner.

Neighborhoods in Detroit.
Matrix Human Services, a 501(c)3 organization, has served the Detroit community and surrounding areas for more than 110 years. The League of Catholic Women led the way in 1906 with a vision and mission to fight poverty. Today our mission remains the same as we continue Touching Hearts and Changing Lives in our community.
INVEST IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
In addition to financial support, our programs rely on the generosity of people like you to provide essential support to the community. Donations of goods – food, clothing, furnishings and supplies – are in demand.
The following list serves as a brief example of the many items we seek for donation – where can you help?

Many of our programs have specific needs that you, your group or organization may choose to sponsor through investment. Please visit our Program Support page for more information and to get started.
EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY
The Emergency Food Pantry acts as a supplement to other food programs, helping to ensure all clients have access to adequate food. The food pantry also provides a safety net in crisis situations. You can help by donating nonperishible food items, joining the Kroger rewards program to benefit Matrix with your weekly shopping or ORGANIZE A FOOD DRIVE!
The Matrix clothing closet provides career clothing for interviews, replacement wardrobes for crisis situations, cold weather gear for the unequipped, school clothes for growing children and so much more. We outfit men, women and children of all ages – in need – at no cost. Clothing donations are needed for men, women and children of all sizes!
Items donated to Matrix are freely distributed during quarterly giveaway events hosted at The Matrix Center. Each Giveaway Day / Community Bazaar event welcomes the community to simply come and take items they need – for free. We’re actively collecting clothing, household items, furnishings, small appliances and more for the next Giveaway Day!
Supporting our families, our Head Start centers provide all items needed for care, including diapers. Under federal guidelines Head Start families cannot bring diapers to the program. Matrix Head Start centers use an average of 7,000 diapers a week (as of 12/2014). YOU CAN HELP our low income families by organizing a diaper drive with your employer or group.
