In September 2006, The Center, working with the College for Creative Studies, developed a proposal for instituting a high quality arts and theatre programs that would benefit the residents of Northeast Detroit (the Osborn Neighborhood). Within the community there was a significant absence of programming for children and youth to express their creativity and artistic skill.
By January 2008 the number of organizations utilizing The Center for after school, evening or weekend programming has expanded to include the College for Creative Studies, Detroit Mosaic Youth Theatre, African Dance Works, Pewabic Pottery, Insideout Literacy Arts and Centro T.A.B.C.A.T.. Through monthly meetings at The Center, these Mission Partners collaborate on public relations materials, art exhibits and a new vision for arts in the community. The Center is working on expanding programming in the art studio for adults, senior citizens and Head Start children.
