BRAD COULTER NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO OF MATRIX HUMAN SERVICES

DETROIT, January 8, 2016 – Brad Coulter has been named President and CEO of Matrix Human Services, a $40 million per year non-profit organization with over 600 employees serving the City of Detroit since 1906. He will be responsible for the entire Matrix organization and will report directly to the Matrix Board of Directors. Brad replaces outgoing President and CEO, Marcella Wilson, Ph.D., who is stepping down after ten years to pursue her life’s work with Transition to Success™ (TTS™), a model of care that treats poverty as a treatable condition and not a character flaw.

Coulter brings over 30 years of business experience to the Matrix position and recently completed an 18 month term as the state appointed Emergency Manager for the City of Lincoln Park. In that role, he successfully solved the city’s financial crisis, reinvigorated a sense of community among the residents, and greatly improved city operations. At the end of his just completed term, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder stated “Brad has provided a shining example of how the system can work; first collaborating with local leaders to address the city’s financial emergency, then working to enhance economic development to help ensure continued financial stability for Lincoln Park.” Before becoming Emergency Manager, Coulter spent 14 years at Guardian Industries and 13 years as a Turnaround Consultant, most recently with O’Keefe.

Today is a monumental day for Matrix Human Services. We are thrilled to welcome Brad Coulter to the Matrix family. I am confident in his ability to impact the organization and the community by implementing innovative strategies as we continue to assist those underserved in the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan. His proven track record and ability to create change is welcomed by the Board of Directors. We look forward to working with Brad and we anticipate a bright future filled with hope for those we serve.

This role offers the chance for Coulter to utilize his entire skill set. While Matrix is not having financial problems, the organization has grown dramatically in the past few years and will benefit from his hands on style of management. Coulter brings an impressive, results oriented resume to Matrix and is experienced in driving change, improving operating efficiencies, and empowering staff to do their job.

“I learned how a well-run organization is managed during my time at Guardian Industries. I believe in giving people responsibility, allowing them to run their part of the operation, and then holding people accountable for the results,” states Coulter. While at Guardian, Coulter spent eight years in Asia where he helped set up joint ventures in India and Thailand. In addition to his business skills, Coulter brings a demonstrated ability to establish working relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

Coulter continues, “I am very excited about this next phase of my career and am honored to be given the responsibility of being named President and CEO of Matrix Human Services.”
