AEI - Alliance for Economic Inclusion
AEI (est.2008) Is a financial literacy project modeled after the successful Chicago project to help the unbanked predominately African American and Hispanic populations use banking services. It begins with budgeting basics utilizing the FDICs 'Money Smart" curriculum to help individuals understanding budget, checking & saving accounts, banking services, access to loans and mortgages, etc to ensure individuals are not falling to predatory lenders such as payday advance or check cashing fees.
In addition to working with individuals in the community the steering committee works with financial institutions (banks and credit unions) to develop new products and services to meet the needs of our families including second chance checking accounts, acceptance of the Matricular Identification Card in the Hispanic community and small loans.
It is a partnership with the financial institutions, social service agencies, the community and the committee to support financial literacy and success for individuals and families.
